Airport Bench Update!

Here is a visual update on the new Winnipeg Airport benches that I posted about a few posts ago. The benches are roughly 13 feet in length. And being made out of local Manitoba Oak I would say these benches tip the scales at over 500lbs! Strong enough to take years of abuse from avid travelers.

The benches will be installed just before the grand opening at the end of the month. I can't wait to see them installed! If you're visiting the new airport in the future chances are you`ll be travelling, which hopefully means you`re going vacation, take a load off your feet and have a seat and relax on one of the new benches!

A D. I. Y. Looking good!

Reclaimed Ash Flooring
Here is an example of a "do-it-yourself" job that is looking great! This customer came in to look at some OSMO Wood Wax Transparent Stain for his Fir staircase (Pictured below). He picked up 3 cans of Ebony after looking at the staining sample we put together. The Fir for the stairs and the Ash for the flooring was all reclaimed from his source at a very cheap price. Keep in mind there is a lot of work to re-purpose reclaimed wood but the results are totally worth it!

L to R - Ebony, Mahogany, Birch, Dove Blue. All on Reclaimed Fir

I should be getting updated photos next week if the timing works our for the D.I.Y. guy!

Reclaimed and headed for a restaurant near you!

It's always a great feeling when we get a request for tables to be used in a commercial application! This restauratuer paid us a site visit informing us that he was after something rustic to compliment his stylized modern room. Upon his  tour we presented him with some beautiful reclaimed Fir that we felt would be the perfect fit! The history behind the Fir wood is unique to Winnipeg as well. It was salvaged from recently revamped Bell Hotel Lighthouse Mission on Main Street. The final request was for 2 timber tables and 12 tabletops all made from reclaimed Fir.  The tables were finished with two coats of Varathane.

I won't say who or what the restaurant is but it will be serving something Tapas-esque in the downtown area.  Hopefully I will have to opportunity to take final pics of the new restaurant which I will post.

The Rounded (ZAOBLENÝ) LOFT

It's hard to believe that this place is an apartment. I love the mix of natural elements blended in at just the perfect amount. The wash of texture and color from the wood grains provide natures warmth to the openness of the loft. Below is a partial write up from the designers...read on!

The apartment offers four private bedrooms, one of which is currently used as office owners, all the storage spaces are usually designed as built. Was important for us, in addition to maintaining discreet seamless interconnection of the major parts of the loft, the selection of materials. All materials are pleasant to the touch and are predominantly natural character. Many elements together with our clients, we sampled or selected in the stonework, dýhárně etc. Most of the furniture is made to measure directly the flat, so that it formed a comprehensive and unobtrusive feeling for his own life owner. The floor consists of large format ceramic tiles in a light cream color, most of the supporting elements of the original wooden roof, we tried to keep visible. Cooking plate is made of black granite and vice versa is facing a line of pale marble neleštěného, contrast them to the table is tailor-made from solid walnut and original lamp of ash veneer. The living area connects to the kitchen warm gray textured coat. The selection of materials for us it was important to their natural aging and overall natural character.

Take a seat at the new WPG JAR Airport!

With anticipation, the Winnipeg Airport's Authority is set to open October 30, 2011 where passengers and all airplanes will be re routed to use the new terminal. We're excited about that because we were commissioned to build four different types of exterior benches made from Manitoba Oak. As you can see the bench seating and backs are cut then sanded from laminated Manitoba Oak. And yes they are heavy! The lets just say that the WAA won't have to worry about people moving them from their spots!

The completion of the benches are coming up so check back for updates!

All a Board!!

I came across these photos I snapped from my I phone. It's so easy these to take pics and forget about them! What we have here is a semi load of 24 lifts equaling right around the 7000 board foot mark of reclaimed Elm lumber getting sent to the kiln. That's quite a bit of Elm kept out of the landfill that will be used for something beautiful!

I would love to be wrapped up in this home!

One of our lovely customers sent in photos of the work we did in their house over the summer! All cabinetry and base boards were custom built out of Birch wood. The counter tops were custom built out of Maple throughout the kitchen to accommodate the main counters the stove/oven and wrapped around the gorgeous commercial style kitchen sink. The house was rounded out the with natural reclaimed urban 5" wide engineered Elm flooring.

I have to commend  them on a job well done with designing this beautiful contemporary abode! Well done guys, I'm positive you're lovin' every moment of it!
